Students engaged in ANZAC Day activities to extend their knowledge of the historical background on ANZAC Day, the symbols of commemoration and to discuss their own experiences of this special day and why it is significant for many Australians. Experiences of Anzac Day marches in our local community were shared and Senior students baked ANZAC biscuits. Junior students read the big book- ‘Here They Come’ which is published by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and illustrated by Taralga’s own Warren Brown. They tried to imagine how a range of different characters from the book would feel including servicemen and women, returned servicemen and women, those that have lost loved ones, new Australians, families missing loved ones and a young child. The students gave some insightful answers.
